How To Grow Shrubs
Printer Friendly PDF

Select area for shrub planting with regard to mature height and spread of shrub. Choose shade loving plants for shady areas and sun loving plants for sunny areas.

Dig hole twice as wide as container it is purchased in. Mix one-third Garden Magic Peat with two-thirds existing soil.

Remove shrub from container and cut root ball 1" deep down the full length of root ball in three places around root ball. Do not tear root ball apart.

Fill bottom of hole with above mixture so that when shrub is placed in hole, top of root ball will be at soil level. Place shrub in hole at desired level and fill around root ball with above mixture.

Water shrub in thoroughly with a mixture of Ferti-lome Root Stimulator at a rate of 3 ½ tbs. per gallon of water. Do this two more times 10 days apart.

After watering, place Ferti-lome Tree & Shrub Food at recommended rate around shrub on top of soil. For large shrubs, 15-gallon and up build up soil around shrub planting so that when watering, the water will not run off.

Mulch around shrub with pine straw. Continue to keep shrub watered well. Fertilize shrub in spring and fall with Ferti-lome Tree & Shrub Food.
